Quit smoking tips 10

2 Reasons While You've Been Unable To Quit - UNTIL NOW!

The majority of people who try and quit smoking cold turkey will do so without a plan, make sure you don't do this. If you are a smoker who would love to to quit smoking but find the whole quitting thing quit intimidating then put down the smoke and keep reading.

This quick article will explain a few, simple but important you need to know if you want to quit smoking.

Something you should obtain is Responsibility. If you'd like to quit smoking then you are going to need to take responsibility. You can't put this on anyone else and blame others for your problem because you yourself created it. I am going to be a little harsh on you so don't take it personally but it really is your own fault. A part of achieving a goal is accepting and clearly pointing out your situation and problems and then and then changing it until you have reached your goal.

So forget about blaming anyone but yourself, I've helped many people beat smoking and they'll always tell me things like things like "I smoke because I am always stressed" (Smoking is proven to give you more stress so don't buy into it) or "I smoke just to annoy all those stuck-up self-righteous non smokers". Be serious with yourself, are the excuses you're giving yourself completely logical because I'll bet they they aren't. It's important that you change this, and it's easy too, just take responsibility for your problem and work towards quitting.

Here's something that is very important if you are trying to quit smoking. Willpower, in smoking terms this is the ability to persist through even the toughest of cravings. Look, the most average of craving lasts just 3 minutes. Just 3 minutes! yet millions of people all over the world fail to quit each year. They give in to those minute 3 minutes. The irony is that if they could just hold out for a little longer they would make it.

But they don't, and do you want to know why? Well it's because so many people these days have virtually no willpower. I've quit and I know how hard it is, I was a very addicted smoker. But you've got to just tell yourself that you will fight off that next craving. And each time you do so you are filled with a copious amount of confidence which only grows after each time you don't give in to the craving. So just cut yourself off for that 3 minutes and before you know it, you'll be off those nasty smokes.

Well we have come to the end of this article and to go out with a bang I'm going to quote a famous sports brand (guess who) and say... "Just do it!" Seriously. Just force yourself to quit and believe in yourself that you will quit. It's do or die now, so go out there and quit.

Hey! I'm Peter Lachland (the author of this wonderful article) Now not only did I write this "amazing" article :D but I am the creator of the now quite famous "Quit Smoking By Smoking: The Method That Takes A Little Longer But Actually Works" method. And that's the crazy thing about my method... you actually quite literally quit smoking by smoking (using my unique method combined with a small yet powerful twist we've managed to gain a 96% success rate, awesome right?). Why Should You Quit Smoking

Even though quitting smoking is not easy, but it is not impossible. In order to achieve your goal of quitting, you need to know what you're up against, what your options are, and where to go for help. All of this can be found here.

Why Is It So Hard to Quit Smoking?

The only answer as to why it is hard for people to quit smoking and stay quit is Nicotine.

Nicotine - Nicotine is a drug found naturally in tobacco. The drug is extremely addictive, just as addictive as heroin or cocaine. With the passage of time, a person becomes bodily and emotionally obsessed with, or dependent on, nicotine. Studies have shown that smokers have to deal with both the physical and psychological dependence to be triumphant at quitting and staying quit.

Why Should I Quit?

Your Health - Most of the times it is the health concern that makes people quit smoking. This is a very real concern: About half of all smokers who continue to smoke will end up dying from a smoking-related illness.

Cancer - It is known to all that smoking is the leading cause behind lung cancer, but few people realize it is also a risk factor for many other kinds of cancer as well, including cancer of the mouth, voice box (larynx), throat (pharynx), esophagus, bladder, kidney, pancreas, cervix, stomach, and some leukemia's.

Lung Diseases - Pneumonia has been incorporated in the list of diseases caused by smoking since 2004. Smoking also increases your hazard of getting lung diseases such as emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Emphysema and chronic bronchitis can be found in people as young as 40, but are more commonly diagnosed later in life, when the symptoms are more severe.

Heart Attacks, Strokes, and Blood Vessel Diseases - Heart-attacks are said to be twice the cause of death of smokers as compared to non-smokers. And smoking is a key risk factor for tangential vascular disease, a contraction of the blood vessels that carry blood to the leg and arm muscles. Smoking also affects the walls of the vessels that carry blood to the brain (carotid arteries), which can cause strokes. Men who smoke are more likely to grow erectile dysfunction (impotence) because of blood vessel disease.

Blindness and Other Problems - Smoking also causes untimely wrinkling of the skin, bad breath, bad smelling clothes and hair, yellow fingernails, and an augmented risk of macular degeneration, one of the most widespread causes of blindness in the elderly.

Special Risks to Women and Babies - Women have some exclusive risks associated to smoking. Women over 35 who smoke at the same time as using birth control pills have a superior risk of heart attack, stroke, and blood clots of the legs. Women who smoke are more probable to have a miscarriage or a lower birth-weight baby. Low birth-weight babies are more likely to die or have learning and physical problems.

Years of Life Lost Due to Smoking - Based on data collected in the late 1990s, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) anticipated that adult male smokers lost an average of 13.2 years of life and female smokers lost 14.5 years of life because of smoking. And given the diseases that smoking can root, it can take away your quality of life long before you die. Smoking-related illness can bound your activities by making it harder to breathe, get around, work, or play.

Help Is Available

With the extensive range of therapy services, self-help materials, and medicines available today, smokers have more tools than ever to help them quit smoking for good.

Make sure that you know that tobacco addiction has both a psychological and a physical component. At times, some combination of medicine is the best way to quit, a method to change personal habits, and emotional support.

This site provides information about how to quit smoking and gives the support and encouragement that you would need in the process.

The 3 Deadly Smoking Sins

Every smoker is guilty of the three deadly smoking sins. So what are they? Simple, they are the three lies a smoker consistently tell themselves to justify a deadly habit. They are the lies that a smoker has to overcome before they can successfully quit smoking for good.

'I enjoy smoking.'

'I want to smoke.'

'I need to smoke.'

Enjoy, want and need, these are the three deadly smoking sins and they are deadly for a reason; smoking kills. Of course it's up to you if you choose to believe it or not. According to the American Cancer Society approximately half of the smokers who continue to smoke will die from a smoking related illness. That's over 400,000 people every year in the U.S alone and millions worldwide.

That's a pretty scary thought for any smoker, young or old, man or woman. Or it should be. There aren't many things that you can do in life on a daily basis that will contribute to your death as much as smoking a cigarette will.

Problem is no smoker wants to believe it even though it's a fifty-fifty chance that it will happen to them. Let me put it to you this way; smoking cigarettes is like putting your life on the line on the spin of a roulette wheel, if the little ball lands on black you die if it lands on red you live. Put another way, heads you die tales you live.

Next time you are smoking a cigarette with a bunch of other smokers do a quick head count. Guess what, if all of them there smokers continue to enjoy, want and need a cigarette then half of them will die because of it. Maybe it's time to ask yourself if you really do enjoy, want and need a cigarette so much so that you're prepared to bet your life on a flip of a coin or the spin of a roulette wheel.

Benefits Of Quitting Smoking - You'll Be More Sexy and Have More Cash

The benefits of quitting smoking can be summarized in 3 categories: the health benefits, the financial benefits, and the social benefits. By understanding each of these, people are less likely to give in when they are trying to quit.

Smoking is associated with some of the most serious illnesses including the top killers such as cancer and heart disease. One year after quitting, a person's risk of having a heart attack falls to about half that of a smoker. Fifteen years after quitting it is about the same level as a non-smoker. Within 10 -15 years of quitting, a person's risk of getting lung cancer is only slightly higher than a person that has been a non-smoker.

This has obvious benefits for the smoker in terms of survivorship. But there are also savings for the community. The cost of treating health complications that are caused by or exacerbated by smoking runs into the millions.

There are also cost savings to be made by the individual. Cigarettes are not cheap, costing around $5 in the USA and £5 in the UK for a pack of 20. Quitting a 20 a day habit would put the best part of two grand in your pocket. How would you fancy a two grand pay rise for the rest of your life?

Using this money for something special is a strong motivator for many people to give up. For instance you could work out exactly what you spend and then say that if you stay cigarette-free for the next year, you will take your family to the Caribbean for a holiday. Tell them that you are doing the challenge as well and they will be sure to help you avoid temptation.

There are also social benefits to not smoking. Who wants to kiss a person that tastes like an old ashtray? Your clothes will no longer smell and you won't get disapproving looks when you light up in a restaurant.

Society is changing. It is still within living memory that if you worked in an open office it was very common for there to be smog of cigarette smoke. Not anymore. Most companies have a smoking ban in public areas, and many countries have introduced legislation to ban smoking in public buildings like restaurants and cinemas. Break the rules and you are seen as an outcast.

The benefits of quitting smoking are numerous, but many people still need help to kick the habit. You should contact your doctor or smoking cessation specialist to find a solution for you.

Smoking and Cancer - Could You Be Killing Your Family?

Smoking is the biggest cause of preventable deaths in the developed world. It is connected with some of the most serious conditions such as cancer, heart disease and stroke. Here we'll have a look at the effect of smoking on cancer.

Smoking and cancer - the facts

Thousands of cancer deaths a year are caused by smoking. It is estimated that 30% of all cancer deaths in the USA can be put down to smoking. When you look at cancers of the organs most affected by smoking the figures are even more shocking. About 87% of lung cancers are due to smoking. And even if you are a non-smoker you are not in the clear. It is thought that that 3,000 people a year die from lung cancer as a result of passive smoking - breathing in the smoke from other people's cigarettes. It's a sad thought that smokers could be killing the people closest to them; their friends, family and loved ones.

How does smoking cause cancer?

Cigarette smoke contains a mix of over 4,000 chemicals, of which at least 60 are known to be carcinogenic (cancer-forming). These include benzene, cadmium, chromium and polonium-210 (radon). Because smoking is highly addictive the body is exposed to these carcinogens on a repetitive basis. These substances cause the DNA in cells to alter and this can lead to cancer.

Will quitting help?

If you give up smoking you will reduce your chances of getting cancer or suffering other health related problems. The sooner you give up the better your chances of leading a healthier life. People that give up before the age of 50 are twice as likely to survive the next 15 years as people that continue to smoke.

What help is available to give up?

There's now more advice, help and products available to help you quit than ever before. The products that you can chose to help include nicotine replacement products such as nicotine gum and nicotine patches. You can either contact your doctor or buy nicotine gum over the counter. These products will help with the cravings. You are twice as likely to give up using a nicotine product than going 'cold-turkey'.

Other ways to help you quit include prescription drugs that you need to obtain from your doctor. These can help by reducing your desire for cigarettes. Some people have also found hypnotherapy to be of use to them.

Quitting Smoking - The Nicotine Substitute Method

"It's not the nicotine in cigarettes that's harmful. It's the smoke."

That was the tag line provided by a manufacturer of nicotine gum during the famous debut of their product's commercials a decade ago. While not an entirely accurate statement (will discuss that later) it did strike a nerve with millions of smokers and led them to a rush to purchase nicotine gum. Unlike many other products of the past which promised a lot and delivered little, nicotine transmission products such as gum, patches, sprays et al turned out to work quite well.

This was a veritable godsend! For many years people struggled to discover reliable cures for the pain of nicotine and cigarette addiction but they all were of no avail. Yes, many people were able to quit smoking cold turkey or through other means but with the advent of nicotine transmission substitutes such as nicotine gum and nicotine patches the ability to kick the habit was made far easier than ever before. Because of this, sales of these products boomed to a degree far greater than anyone ever expected.

Whether one is taking nicotine gum, a lozenge or a patch all of these methods serve the same purpose: to deliver nicotine in much smaller doses than what is found in cigarettes and also with the added benefit of not having to inhale dangerous smoke into one's lungs. Of course, different people react differently to different methods and it may take a little trial and error before finding which particular product works for you. So, if one method doesn't work there is no reason to feel despondent. Simply try another method/product and see if better results will occur.

Of course, one must never lose sight of the fact that you should not be puffing away while also chewing your nicotine gum! When you are taking one of these cigarette substitutes it is critical to stop smoking when taking the product. There are many people who use these products as a means of cutting back on the number of cigarettes they smoke per day with the eventual goal of smoking none. While this may seem like a decent plan it is NOT the suggested method promoted by the actual product. The reason for this is that if one were to chew nicotine gum and smoke at the same time the sheer volume of nicotine one would ingest performing such "double duty" would be far too much and certainly not healthy.

It needs to be pointed out that nicotine is harmful and it is not just the smoke that can harm you. In fact, nicotine in high doses can be poisonous! Also, no matter what form you ingest nicotine it still remains a highly addictive substance so when you chew nicotine gum there comes the potential to being addicted to the gum as well. Now, this is not stated as a means of scaring people into avoiding nicotine gums, patches, etc but rather it is a method of presenting certain warnings regarding continued use of these products. They are designed to wean you off the drug not replace one transmission method with another.

Quick Quit Smoking Tips To Help You Stop Smoking Now! - Nurse's Guide

In the following article I'll share some easy ways to quit smoking that are easy to use. Tips for when you're getting ready to quit, tips for the day you quit and tips for not starting up after you've quit. These tips have worked for many former smokers.

Tips For Getting Ready To Quit Smoking

First of all, getting ready to quit is important. You should set a date for quitting. Make it a day when you'll be busy and preferably in a situation where your hands will be busy. Find a friend who will quit along with you.

Pay attention to when you smoke. Determine or think about why you smoke. Figure out the situations in your daily routine that you do while smoking (such as drinking a cup of coffee or tea or driving your car, reading the daily newspaper, etc.)

Try to change your current smoking routine, for example put your cigarettes in a different place or smoke with the hand you don't usually use. Try to smoke without doing anything else. Give some serious thought as to how you feel when you smoke. Smoke only in places you designate such as outdoors only.

When you feel the urge for a cigarette, wait a few minutes before you light up. Try to think of something you can do instead of smoking; for example chew gum, drink a glass of water or keep both of your hands busy on the computer or on a project. Buy only one pack of cigarettes at a time and switch to a brand of cigarettes you know you don't like.

Tips for The Day You Quit Smoking Get rid of all your cigarettes; if possible do it the night before. Get rid of all your ashtrays, matches, lighters or any other smoking paraphernalia.

Change your morning routine so you do things a different way. When you eat breakfast, sit in a different place at your table. Keep busy, keep busy, keep busy.

When you feel the urge to smoke, immediately do something else instead. Focus on at least one affirmation or positive thought that you've written down in advance to think about and repeat to yourself. Carry items with you at all times to put in your mouth, such as a piece of gum, a piece of hard candy, handful of nuts, banana, an orange or tangerine to peel or a toothpick.

Keep your hands busy. Use the computer, take up knitting or take up painting or any other hobby that will keep both hands working on something.

Make sure to reward yourself at the end of the day for not smoking. See a movie, go out to eat and enjoy a great salad or visit a non-smoking friend, for example.

Tips for Staying Smoke-Free

You shouldn't worry if you're sleepier or more short-tempered than you usually are because the feelings will pass. Try to exercise every day. Take a short or long walk when you feel the urge to smoke. Go to the club and work out, play tennis or golf or ride a bike.

Make a list of all the positive things you can think of about stopping smoking, such as how much you like yourself as a non-smoker, the health benefits for you and your family, the example you set for others around you who smoke and that your hair, clothes and breath will no longer have the smell of smoke for example. Keep a positive attitude to help you through the rough days.

When you feel stressed out or tense, try to keep busy and think about ways to solve the problem. Tell yourself that smoking won't make it better and focus on or do something else. Make sure to eat regular meals and try not to let yourself get hungry. Keep fruit handy for snacks. Try new fruits as an adventure. Feeling hungry is sometimes mistaken for the desire or urge to smoke.

Start a quart-size money jar and deposit the money you save by not buying any cigarettes. Make a plan for what you'll do with it each week or month.

Tell others you know that you've quit smoking. Most people will be happy for you and support you. Many of your friends who smoke may want to know how you managed to quit. It's always good to talk to others about quitting smoking.

If you slip up and have a cigarette, don't get discouraged. Many former smokers say they tried to stop several times before they finally were able to quit. Quit again. Every time you quit you'll be closer to quitting forever. These are like rehearsals and your health benefits each time because it gives your body a chance to heal.

If you feel you need professional help, see your naturopathic doctor first. He or she may be able to suggest some natural alternatives or options. Try to not to use 'quit smoking' aids to help you break your addiction to cigarettes. Nicotine gum and nicotine patches should only be used as a last resort. However they may or may not help you break your addiction to nicotine.

Try to avoid using any 'quit smoking' pills, medicines, medications or drugs. They may be harmful, have side effects, cause adverse reactions or have addictive qualities.

If you have a hard time sticking to your plan try to find a support group locally or online so you can share your feelings and experiences. With these quit smoking tips you should be well on your way to working up a plan to breathe free again. Smoking cessation is the goal. You can do it! Thousands before you have done it!

Quit Smoking and Never Smoke Again!

I'd had it. This time I was going to quit smoking and never smoke again. Yeah, you know how dangerous smoking is and what it's doing to your body. But if you're anything like me, you've tried to quit it a dozen times. But then you're at a party having a couple of adult beverages and you figure you can have just one. And then it's back in the hamster wheel with that nicotine monkey on your back.

I've tried them all-the patch, the gum, hypnosis, all of it. And some of them helped. Just not for the long haul. I even quit for three years but I found my way back to cigarettes in the end. So I started rummaging around online to see if there was anything new. And I found something...something called the Easy Quit system. A guy named Pete Howells wrote this ebook about his findings. Howells says that the reason most people fail to quit smoking and never smoke again is they haven't learned how to stop smoking forever. They don't have the skills to do it.

Personally I found the Easy Quit system to be the easiest method I've heard of to quit. And without all the cravings, anxiety, the bad moods...and no weight gain. I didn't have to:

• "Motivate" myself every day
• Perform any breathing exercise
• Take any sort of medicine, or
• Set a particular date for when I had to quit"

In this book you'll learn what Howells calls the three pillars of quitting. These enabled me to quit smoking and never smoke again! You will save hundreds and even thousands of dollars a year, you'll certainly feel a whole lot better, and you'll be around a lot longer for your family. I mean, even if you don't do it for yourself, wouldn't you want to do it for them? If you'd like to be given the skills to quit, or if you just want some more information about the Easy Quit system, check out the link in my author's box below. You'll breath easier for it.
